Description
Saffron adulteration is one of the most widespread food frauds in the world. Artificial colour, dried corn silk, safflower petals dyed red — the list of what gets passed off as saffron is long and well-documented. If you have ever bought saffron that barely coloured your milk and had almost no aroma, you have been on the receiving end of it.
Our Premium Kashmiri Kesar is the real thing. Hand-harvested from the legendary saffron fields of Pampore — the valley in Kashmir where Crocus sativus has been cultivated for over three thousand years — each crimson stigma is picked individually from the flower by hand during the brief annual harvest window. The GI tag that protects Kashmiri saffron exists because the terroir of Pampore produces a quality that cannot be replicated anywhere else.
Mongra grade is the finest classification — only the dark red stigma portion is used, with no yellow style attached. This is where the highest concentrations of the three key active compounds reside: crocin (responsible for the deep golden colour), safranal (the distinctive aroma), and picrocrocin (the flavour compound). Four to six strands soaked in two tablespoons of warm water for fifteen minutes produce a liquid so deeply golden and intensely fragrant that it is immediately clear this is categorically different from adulterated products.
The therapeutic properties — mood elevation, cognitive support, immune function, sleep quality, digestive comfort, skin brightening — are dose-dependent on these active compounds. They are only present at meaningful concentrations in genuine, unadulterated saffron. The real thing works. The fake does not.
